I get music playing in my head all the time and it's super random. I'm assuming everyone is like this, but I don't actually know that. (...)

What's in rotation on your mental playlist? Do you have one?

Why yes I do! In fact, at work I am known as "the one who sings a lot". (Both jobs. I have a student right now named Maria. Do you know how many songs there are about Marias?!)

I get very many songs stuck in my head on a regular basis, quite often the last one I listened to. But these are the hits that are on frequent rotation:

Welcome back to Mixtape Monday! Today's theme: Songs That Remind You When.

Ideally, songs that remind you of your teen years: that time when you were first discovering music for yourself, and believing that the songs were written just for you. (They were. Trust me, they were!)

Of course: for some of you, that was just yesterday. ;) Feel free to pick any songs that remind you of a particular time in your life.

I have been neglecting the 'ol LJ as of late, so I'm going to be trying a few things to get me posting again. (That is: posting things that are not me complaining about my job.)

The first such project I have dubbed Mixtape Mondays! (Maybe I'll make a graphic for it. I make graphics for everything now...)

Basically, I'll choose a theme, and every Monday post a mix of (5ish?) songs centered around it. If you'd like to play along at home, here in the comments or on your own journal: why, I'd be thrilled.

Nothing much on my part. I've submitted my first original story for publication, so that's out of the way! (I don't have my hopes up for getting published, but it was nice to break the ice, right?)

The rest of this weekend, I need to finish all the music mixes I signed up for, and slap some polish on my

femgenficathon entry. (At least it's written! It...doesn't go anywhere...but it's written!)

I've got my two entries for

sherlockmas's Summer of Sherlock done and emailed to Rachel. (I am kind of wondering who the hell I am anymore, finishing all of this stuff ahead of deadlines...I think I have the chatroom to thank!)

This is such a great idea, I am kicking myself for not thinking of it first! I have to ponder out my prompts, but then I am all over this thing!

You make a prompt, someone claims it, and then you get a lovely mix of songs to enjoy! Prompts can be fandom-specific, general, original, a quote, a song, etc... GO AND HAVE FUN!

Today (6.28 for Americans; 28.06 for people who are wrong*... :P) is Tau Day, a day dedicated to Pi's obscure rival: Tau. There are those who argue that π (the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter) is not the best choice as the circle constant, and τ (the ratio of a circle's circumference to its radius) is the better choice. The website I linked to makes a compelling argument: after all, just look at how many times "2π" appears in mathematical formulas.

Anyway, since a circle's radius is half its diameter, τ is always equal to 2π, or approximately 6.283185307179586… Here, snagged from The Nerdist, is a clip of Michael John Blake's musical tribute to Tau: (It's gorgeous!)

Since this is a music-related post, I have some questions and observations:

1. I am irrationally annoyed with this singer calling herself Eliza Doolittle. You DO NOT get to call yourself 'Eliza Doolittle', you have a song called "Rollerblades" for Christ's sake! Can we leave the iconic literature/film characters out of it, please?

2. Sondre Lerche, Of Montreal, Wombats, and TV On the Radio all have new albums out. Has anyone heard any of them? Good? Worth buying?

3. I am want to see Fleet Foxes and the Walkmen in September, but I do not want to spend almost $45.00 to sit in the 'upper balcony', TYVM!

4. Still trying to convince my friends to see Foster the People with me next month. $15.00! Such value!

5. Any other new music out there I should be checking out? I CRAVE NEW MUSIC ALL THE TIME.

I know it's spring and time to move onto spring vegetables, but there were some yummy-looking leeks in the grocery store the other day, and I couldn't resist! So here's a quick recipe:

Tomorrow, for my friend's graduation BBQ, I'm making an orzo pasta salad with marinated veggies. They had some GORGEOUS-looking eggplants at the grocery store: deep purple, and cream and purple-striped ones. I also bought some zucchini, yellow summer squash, a red bell pepper, cherry tomatoes, and some marinated olives and feta cheese. I think I'm going to add some oregano from the herb garden. What I can't decide is this: should I cook the veggies? How is eggplant raw? My instinct is to roast the veggies, but: before or after I marinate them? Hmm...conundrums.

(Good lord, is this journal boring! If it's not me complaining, it's me wittering on about food! When do I get my Old Lady badge?)

It was a beautiful sunny day, and I spent the afternoon puttering around in the garden. The cat accompanied me, and spent her time pretending to be a street-savvy Wild Animal. She very nearly went after a bumblebee who was working the hyacinths, but wisely decided he was out of her league.

I then went inside, and re-potted some of the seedlings I'd started that were getting too big for the starter trays. Remember the baby pictures I posted of my seedlings? Well, look at my pumpkins now: ( Trying to save flist space... )
