Mixtape Monday: Nostalgia Edition
Mar. 12th, 2012 08:40 pm(Told you I was gonna make a graphic:)

Welcome back to Mixtape Monday! Today's theme: Songs That Remind You When.
Ideally, songs that remind you of your teen years: that time when you were first discovering music for yourself, and believing that the songs were written just for you. (They were. Trust me, they were!)
Of course: for some of you, that was just yesterday. ;) Feel free to pick any songs that remind you of a particular time in your life.
As for me, here's a trip through my musical awakening, starting with:
Another Bad Creation. ABC. I wore this tape out when I was 9. (OBLIGATORY DISCLAIMER: haters gonna hate. At least they weren't New Kids on the Block! I defy you to find a better hip hop song that features the phrase "monkey bars". I defy you!)
Kurt Cobain died when I was 12 years-old, and I can remember all the girls who went into mourning. We were perhaps a little too young to fully appreciate the music, but for those just a little older than me, he defined a generation:
Radiohead released The Bends when I was 13. I don't know how many people would choose it as their favorite of Radiohead's albums, but as a young teenager, it spoke to me, OK? It's hard to pick one track from the album to represent my obsession, but Fake Plastic Trees still speaks to me in a major way:
The first concert I ever saw was The Cranberries at Pine Knobb when I was about 15. This was my favorite song:
Around the same time I started to realize I liked girls as well as guys, my friends and I were way into Ani DiFranco. Coincidence, or Kismet?
Annnd that was a little stroll through my very 90s coming-of-age. As always, if you'd like to play along, do so here in the comments or on your own journal or blog. (Do come back here and leave a link, so I can troll through your music choices!)
(And a plug: don't forget to visit the Original Writing Kink Meme! Many great fills there, and many more excellent prompts waiting to be written.)
