I had a lot of trouble coming up with an answer for this one. First of all, I totally forgot about the 'quote' option and just focused on song lyrics. Naturally. Then, I faced the Herculean task of choosing just one lyrics as my favorite lyric.

I started going through my songs and realized that my favorite songs did not necessarily contain my favorite lyrics. I mean: they have good lyrics, but it's more a combination of the words and the instrumentals that really make the song for me. And then I started thinking: in order for it to be a brilliant lyric, should it have to be brilliant on its own, divorced from its musical context? "For the Widows in Paradise, For the Fatherless in Ypsilanti" by Sufjan Stevens is one of my favorite songs. I thought it had really awesome lyrics. But reading the lyrics all on their own, none of them struck me as particularly great. And the most poetic lyrics were not my favorite parts of the song: my favorite part is when Sufjan sings "I did everything for you" over and over again at the end of the song. It's the repetition of that one single line, over and over again, that adds this incredible emotional weight that drives home the message: I did everything for you. Can I really say this is my favorite lyric when it's really the delivery of said lyric that stands out for me?

Then I had a Tylenol PM and a glass of wine and stopped asking questions.

I finally decided on a lyric that is not only beautifully sung, but stands well on its own as a quote, a motto, or a piece of poetry. It's from The Weepies' song "Can't Go Back Now":

I can't really say why everybody wishes they were somewhere else,
but in the end the only steps that matter are the ones you take all by yourself.

I'd feel better if the last fic I posted didn't have a giant BLAH in the middle of it. That I didn't notice. For three days. Literally-I just didn't feel like finishing that sentence, typed BLAH, told myself I'd go back to it, never did. This was after both betas had looked at the story, so they didn't have a chance to catch it. I do these things because otherwise, I am not fit for public consumption.

JSYK: I totally do that! (Write "blah" or something similar in place of actual words that refuse to write themselves.) I'm surprised I've never posted them that way before!

I have an even nerdier story, though: when I'm writing fic, I always type in the HTML tags (bold, italics, and suchlike) as I write so that I don't have to go back and type them in later. (I'm sure it makes it super fun to beta my work!) I post my work to 3 sites: LJ and AO3 both accept submissions in HTML, but fanfiction.net has this weird document uploading system that just screws everything up. They used to let you post with HTML markups, but then they changed, and in the meantime: all of my work was posted with the tags showing. People commented on my work and never mentioned it for months. Very embarrassing! (And annoying.)

I don't know if I'm necessarily too old for Tumblr, as I know fans in their 40s and beyond who are all over it, but: I do feel like shaking my fist and ordering people off my lawn when I try to figure out how it functions!

There is tons of porn on Tumblr. Now generally, I am all for porn: but some of it just makes me go D:, and that is very hard to do!!!

1. The Weepies are one of my very favorite bands. They will be coming through town soon and I'm trying to convince the boyfriend that he will enjoy coming with me to see them.

2. I co-mod a lyrics-themed graphics community, and I have frequently despaired when trying to share one of my favorite songs with the comm only to discover that it actually has very boring lyrics.

3. The jetpack one is a long-time favorite of the boyfriend's.

1. Well clearly you should just come see me and we'll go together!

2. There are a few songs that I love which contain truly poetic lyrics, and then some that have the same 4 words repeated endlessly until the end of the song. Also I love some that are secretly extremely dirty and I don't find out until I read the lyrics and think, "oh dear. I probably shouldn't sing this in front of children."

And yes you may. It's bleachorus and is Bleach themed, so you probably won't care for it much unless you like anime. Also it's been on hiatus lately while all of the mods had RL explosions.

5. I think that's an excellent idea. I work until 8-9 p.m. every night of the week, so by the time I get home all of the brits have long since gone to bed.
