Happy Thanksgiving!
Nov. 25th, 2010 11:14 am
Happy Thanksgiving! to all my American friends.
And to everyone on my flist, I am thankful for you for all the fun, laughs, and support you give me. Thanks for playing along!
I'm spending the day at my cousin Jennifer's with my dad's family. (It is a HUGE family. Catholics--bah!) My mother made pumpkin pies, and I made an apple one. Erin (future sister-in-law) is making stuffing.
What is everyone else doing? What sort of yummy goodies are you making/looking forward to?

Date: 2010-11-25 05:07 pm (UTC)I'm spending my morning making pretzel bread and hunting down sage and rosemary, since that somehow got left off the list of Things We Need for Thanksgiving Turkey. Then I'm having dinner at my friend's place downtown, where I will attempt to make a key lime pie from scratch.

Date: 2010-11-25 05:33 pm (UTC)I wonder what it would be like to spend a holiday exclusively in the company of people I like, rather than a mixture of people I love and people I tolerate for the sake of the people I love...
Enjoy your Turkey Day!

Date: 2010-11-26 04:43 am (UTC)I haven't had a Thanksgiving with family for something like seven or eight years (I really can't believe it's been that long, omg). This is still one of only two years I haven't been holding my nose and just tolerating some people, though, even among friends (friends-of-friends aren't always the best holiday dinner companions. (-;) It's nice, but my family always did just-us Thanksgivings with the last of the things we took out of the garden, so I miss it like crazy.
Hope your Turkey Day was a fun one. ^_^

Ain't that the truth! There's one particular friend-of-a-friend in my circle who just recently moved out of state. All I can say is: SEE YA!
Is it too big of a trip to get home for Thanksgiving?
My day was nice! I still can't taste food properly, so that was a bummer, but it was nice to see my family, and no one got plastered and started an argument this year, so: bonus!

Date: 2010-11-25 05:34 pm (UTC)On the other hand, I actually love making my own cranberry sauce, and somehow I'm less of a piglet eating half a pumpkin pie at home than going back to a buffet line three times for pie. So a cozy T-day at home, after all, which is probably what we should have planned to begin with.
It's been lovely getting to know you in this short time!

Date: 2010-11-25 05:40 pm (UTC)Ditto! I love that comm for finding fantastically lovely people. :)
I'll have to google "spatchcocking" when I get home from my celebration, because whether you invented that word or not, I want to work it into my vocabulary!
I love making my own cranberry sauce, too, but I forgot to do it last night, and there wasn't enough time today. Oops!
Enjoy your meal! Sounds like it should be lovely. (And have as much pie as you like! That's what the day is for.)

Date: 2010-11-25 06:05 pm (UTC)I'm a turkey-mashed-potatoes-stuffing girl, though I now have to stay away from anything too creamy (thanks to my newly-developed lactose intolerance), which hopefully means all I have to skip is the green bean casserole - but I never liked that anyway.
What I'm really looking forward to after dinner is midnight madness at the mall. Not to really do any Christmas shopping, but more to check the sales and shop for myself. :)

Date: 2010-11-25 11:39 pm (UTC)*gasp* Blasphemy! That's my favorite. Unfortunately, I still haven't regained my sense of smell, therefore I couldn't really taste a lot of the food this year.
(Is it weird to be thankful that I have a great-uncle recovering from surgery so he and his wife won't make it? I am thankful he's okay, but I'm thankful I won't have to spend time with them, too.)
Trust me, I know how this goes! I have plenty of family I don't mind missing at the holidays. And some of them love, but they're just...so much work!
Oh, it is so tempting to buy all the stuff I need for myself during the Christmas sales...I do give in now and again. ;) I used to do the Black Friday shopping, but this year I'm looking forward to sleeping in and laying around the house!
Hope your day was yummy and fun. :)

Date: 2010-11-26 03:49 am (UTC)I'm too lazy to wake up early for Black Friday shopping, but I'm a total night owl, so staying up late I will do. :)
