apple_pathwaysThe Background: Newsweek ran an article that placed Grand Rapids on a list of dying cities in the US. (Quoted from that article: "Michigan dominates much of this list, with several cities experiencing significant declines in population as the state suffered high unemployment rates and above average foreclosures in recent years due mainly to the collapse of the auto industry.")
Well, needless to say, the people of Michigan are a little tired of being kicked around! Our economy sucks, we have the highest unemployment rates in the country, the auto industry is dying: and to add insult to injury, magazines and newspapers and constantly naming our cities among the most miserable, most dangerous, the poorest...I could go on, but I'm getting depressed.
MOVING SWIFTLY ON!
So what are the people of Grand Rapids going to do about it? Well, they're going to get 5,000 people together and create a video of the largest lip-synch to Don McClean's "American Pie", of course! DUH!
There are flames, NERF guns, weddings, acrobats, helicopters, and some hilariously bad lip-synchers! But the video gives me the warm fuzzies, and I hope it does the same for all of you. :D

doctoreleven, but I also thought I'd ask again here: Has anyone found any good fic from current series of Doctor Who? I've found some good stuff (mostly porn. Go figure...), but I can't help but think there MUST BE MORE! Anything dealing with the current revelations of Series 6 would be appreciated, especially if it has Amy and Rory in it! Thanks. :D

It's Captain Jack and the rest of Torchwood (all OCs and surprisingly well-developed) fighting the Silence and meeting Canton along the way. It's pretty good. It's a WIP, but the author updates pretty frequently. Also there is some Jack/Canton, not sure how you would feel about that. Anyway: Assignment: Unremembered.
Just found this one as well, it's the Doctor telling Amy about the Corsair. Short and sweet. Memory and the Sea.

Every once in awhile you see these people in newspapers or on small, obscure news programs who "Set a NEW WORLD RECORD for X!", and it's something like: "Biggest mound of used tissues" or "Longest time singing Lady Gaga on a Pogo stick". Very often, it's their own record they're breaking, if they're not just creating a new 'record' for the hell of it.
World's Largest Pillow Fight and World's Largest Lip Synch are at least a little bit interesting to watch...
(Licking ice cream! Oh, for God's...)
Anyway. Will check out those stories! In the meantime, I have to run off to work. :P

Date: 2011-05-31 05:07 pm (UTC)Although my sister had a job interview in Troy just last week. The company she interviewed with said they had loads of trouble finding qualified execs because people didn't think of the Detroit area as anything other than industrial.
I suspect the season 6 fics will pick up next week when the mid-season cliffy airs in the UK this week.
