apple_pathways: Whatever floats your boat! (Cupcake)

I had a lovely weekend. On Friday, I went to see my friend Lauren and make dinner for her and her son Dylan. (She's pregnant with baby #2, due in July, which is CRAZY!) Dylan was incredibly cranky and clingy and kept wanting her to pick him up while she was in the middle of doing something else. She kept saying, "No, Dylan, I'm not going to pick you up right now!" and then 5 seconds later...yeah.

I think it was frustrating for all of us.

I spent Saturday morning making cakes for my dad's party. Observe the results:

The "39" is for the number of years my father worked for his company. The "FREEDOM!" cake is what happens when you've spent 3 1/2 hours fussing with cake and icing bags, and your hand's cramping up, and you want something other than "Congratulations" to write on a retirement cake.

Ahem.

All the fussing I did over the music, and it ended up being too loud to hear it anyways! My youngs cousins ran riot around the hall, I played beer pong with some friends and cousins, chatted to some relatives, ate a metric ton of pizza, and drank as much beer and wine as I could before it was time to sober up so I could drive the second car home in the SURPRISE!blizzard that apparently no one saw coming. All in all, a good time.

My brother and new sister-in-law were home, so today while they took a nap I took their dog Roxie for a walk. Despite yesterday's storm, today was sunny and rather warm. (Almost 40 degrees!) We stomped around in the new snow and she chased down and destroyed half a dozen sticks. I came home to more pizza and some flat beer leftover from the keg we got for the party. (Reminds me of college days, when friends would invite you over the day after a party to finish the keg before it had to go back to the liquor store for the deposit. Good times.)

The dog's now gone, and my cat's come out of hiding. I need to get some writing done, but: eh, who wants to? There's flat beer to drink!

Also: I have decided to watch Firefly! (Why yes: I am typically about 5 years behind the times!) I had decided to give it a try yesterday and ordered the DVDs from the library, but I discovered it's debuting on the Science channel tonight at 8:00 pm, so that's probably what I'll be doing.

That, and eating leftover cake and drinking flat beer.

What's everyone else up to? How were your weekends?

Oh, also: for any flisters interested in taking part in [livejournal.com profile] sherlockmas's "Spring Into Sherlock" festival, you have until Midnight EST to claim a prompt! The post to do just that is here. I still need to pick two more prompts, and I just don't know which ones to take! If anyone has a suggestion, let me know!

Thank you! I'm just glad I finished them. I have a terrible habit of taking on more than I can comfortably finish in time. :P

Did you have a nice weekend?

Oh god, I know that feeling. . .

My weekend was pretty fun-my boyfriend and I went to the roller derby game last night to cheer on a good friend of mine (also, cheap fun!), and then I met up with some friends this morning. Other than that, it's been pretty quiet, just bumming around. This is the first time in a long while that I'm not working during the weekend-it's nice to just have the downtime.

Also, I'm still fairly tired and have lost control of the English language. Be careful. There might be some rogue pronouns scurrying about.

Roller derby! My friends and I keep meaning to go see the Detroit Derby Girls, but haven't made it out there yet. I'm gonna have to look up their schedule.

Ooh, working on the weekends sucks! I remember when I used to have work/school seven days a week without any time off. Horrible! I do not do well without prolonged periods for doing nothing at all. Downtime is vital!

Your English is fine. I have a weird habit of omitting the key words from sentences when I'm tired or in a hurry. Errant pronouns I can deal with!
