apple_pathways: Whatever floats your boat! (Cupcake)

I had a lovely weekend. On Friday, I went to see my friend Lauren and make dinner for her and her son Dylan. (She's pregnant with baby #2, due in July, which is CRAZY!) Dylan was incredibly cranky and clingy and kept wanting her to pick him up while she was in the middle of doing something else. She kept saying, "No, Dylan, I'm not going to pick you up right now!" and then 5 seconds later...yeah.

I think it was frustrating for all of us.

I spent Saturday morning making cakes for my dad's party. Observe the results:

The "39" is for the number of years my father worked for his company. The "FREEDOM!" cake is what happens when you've spent 3 1/2 hours fussing with cake and icing bags, and your hand's cramping up, and you want something other than "Congratulations" to write on a retirement cake.

Ahem.

All the fussing I did over the music, and it ended up being too loud to hear it anyways! My youngs cousins ran riot around the hall, I played beer pong with some friends and cousins, chatted to some relatives, ate a metric ton of pizza, and drank as much beer and wine as I could before it was time to sober up so I could drive the second car home in the SURPRISE!blizzard that apparently no one saw coming. All in all, a good time.

My brother and new sister-in-law were home, so today while they took a nap I took their dog Roxie for a walk. Despite yesterday's storm, today was sunny and rather warm. (Almost 40 degrees!) We stomped around in the new snow and she chased down and destroyed half a dozen sticks. I came home to more pizza and some flat beer leftover from the keg we got for the party. (Reminds me of college days, when friends would invite you over the day after a party to finish the keg before it had to go back to the liquor store for the deposit. Good times.)

The dog's now gone, and my cat's come out of hiding. I need to get some writing done, but: eh, who wants to? There's flat beer to drink!

Also: I have decided to watch Firefly! (Why yes: I am typically about 5 years behind the times!) I had decided to give it a try yesterday and ordered the DVDs from the library, but I discovered it's debuting on the Science channel tonight at 8:00 pm, so that's probably what I'll be doing.

That, and eating leftover cake and drinking flat beer.

What's everyone else up to? How were your weekends?

Oh, also: for any flisters interested in taking part in [livejournal.com profile] sherlockmas's "Spring Into Sherlock" festival, you have until Midnight EST to claim a prompt! The post to do just that is here. I still need to pick two more prompts, and I just don't know which ones to take! If anyone has a suggestion, let me know!

Sent out applications, did evening exercises, read tons and tons as always, wrote less than I should've. I live such a boring life. I hope that changes. :P

Watched Doomsday, which was a bizarre postapocalyptic movie.

Those cakes look awesome! Congrats to your dad :).

And yes, watch Firefly! I can't believe it's been 9 years since it aired. I feel old. Shiny will soon be your new favorite word, I promise.

This wknd for me consisted of work, taxes (yay, all done!), and a bit of spring cleaning. Weee. Next wknd shall be a lazy wknd methinks.

Your cakes look amazing and FREEDOM! was inspired. :D Your dad is lucky to have you.

As for getting on fan-wagons late... last week I watched my first episode of... Doctor Who. Yeah. (Hey, why waste time watching crap when you have the rest of the world to do quality control for you?)

Awesome cakes! and the party sounds like a blast! Kudos!

I had a la-di-dah event last night, where I stuffed myself on free wine, deep fried appetizers and cupcakes. It was a lot of fun and I went without my husband and hung out with two girlfriends who were also stag, and we just got silly and cussed our hearts out for no good reason other than we could. So today was all about feeling fat and trying to do some yoga to detox, but otherwise a very good weekend. I'm even folding laundry as I watch tv, and it feels very relaxing.

Nom nom nom nom freedom!cake. :D

I'm glad that the party was fun, even if all of the work on the music didn't pay off quite as intended. :D And omg, surprise!blizzard. o_o I wasn't aware it was possible for blizzards to be sneaky. XD

Reminds me of college days, when friends would invite you over the day after a party to finish the keg before it had to go back to the liquor store for the deposit. Good times.
…I missed so many college experiences. XD

Firefly is awesome! \o/ I, uh, still haven't finished the entire season yet, but I love it all the same. The characters are so good, and it's a really fun world. :D

Those cakes look delicious.

Sounds like you had a nice weekend! And had nice weather! It poured on Friday - 50+ degrees and continuous rain. Then it snowed on Saturday. Go figure :)

I have yet to watch "Firefly" as well. One of these days!

I am loving the 'Freedom!' cake. Considerably more honest than 'congratulations', at any rate :D.

You'll love Firefly. I think. Plenty of strong female characters, at any rate.

Ha! That second cake is particularly brilliant :)

I've only just started Firefly too! I've heard such ridiculously good things about it, so I borrowed the DVD from a friend. It's fantastic so far, I just need to find the time to watch it!
