Does anyone have time to Brit-pick a fic of mine? It's a Sherlock/Doctor Who/Firefly crossover fic--you don't need to know anything about the various canons, just be able to help me out with UK/British carnival terminology: for instance, should I say "carnival" or "fair?"

You don't have to worry about SPAG or anything else, I just want to make it seem vaguely plausible this story could take place in England!

Please and thanks yous. :D

Hi, hi! A carnival is a parade, with floats and so on. Sometimes there's a fair, with rides and booths (target shooting, ring toss) and food, also, but the carnival part is the parade on the street.

A fayre is a more 'cultured' event, with baked goods, crafts and so on for sale, and there wouldn't be big rides like a big wheel. More likely pony rides for kids etc.

Let me know if you need anymore help.

Ooh, thank you! That's most helpful. Definitely will have to go through and replace 'carnival' with 'fair'.
