I have claimed my prompt for [livejournal.com profile] sherlockmas's "Summer of Sherlock" ficathon! It is:

River Song, River Tam, John Watson; DOCTOR WHO and FIREFLY xover: Shooting gallery at a summer fair.

This may be my first time writing a crossover. I don't usually write them because I'm not familiar with that many canons, but here's a prompt that combines Sherlock, Doctor Who, AND Firefly! It had to be mine. :P

If you'd like to claim a prompt of your own: follow this link! (If you're not sure which one to pick, I'll you which ones were mine so you can claim them. ;)

And remember how I said I was going to take all of your book recs and compile them into a spreadsheet? Well, I have! There was some interest from others in sharing it, so here ya go: follow me!

One of these days, I'd love to host a book rec swapping meme-type thing: where people can ask for recommendations for certain genres/types of books, and people can post stray recs. Is there any interest for something like that?

So glad you took that one, since I don't want to be the only one writing crossovers every time. ^_^ But... I have no idea what prompt I should claim for this round! I'm thinking maybe I should sit this one out and focus on the short story I'm trying to get done, but I have a feeling I'd end up doing nothing in that case. Blah, writing. I never know what to do.

How about this:

I will make you a deal: pick a prompt that strikes your fancy (something you think you can get a drabble out of) and I'll let you pick my second prompt. Anything you like.

(And not just because I'm rubbish at picking prompts...)

Hmm... I dunno, I could do some pretty evil things in that case. (You should write the Jersey Shore one. ^_^) When does claiming officially close? I dunno if I'll be able to decide tonight. I can probably squeeze a drabble out of a few of the prompts, but they wouldn't be anything interesting.

Oh dear God, is there a Jersey Shore prompt?! (If I end up with that prompt, I'd have to do research! *shudders*)

You have tomorrow to decide: prompting closes at the end of the day June 14. (In...whatever time zone Rachel is in. What time zone is Paris in? Geez, these are the things I should know...anyway. I'm sure Things Could Be Done if you missed the deadline.)

Pssh, you could totally make an interesting drabble out of any of those prompts.

Yep, there is. I'm sure the research would be fun. (-; Actually... I want to see that combined with the Victorian swim costume FOR SCIENCE prompt. It hurts my brain just to think about it, so I'm sure it wouldn't turn out to be impossible and painful to write.

I ended up taking two because I... um... have poor decision-making skills. But I've been meaning to play with the Inception universe. And I can't resist ragging on public transit.

I am now convinced that you are just making up prompts to torment me. Which prompt am I claiming? I can't find either of the ones you're talking about...

I... um... have poor decision-making skills.

Hey, one of your best qualities, if you ask me!

*sigh* I haven't seen Inception. (Are we surprised?) But I imagine it's probably available for rental from iTunes by now, so I'm sure I could arrange it in time to read your fic. :P

That prompt sounds pretty awesome. Two Rivers and a John, what could be better than that? :) So who's gonna win the huge fluffy unicorn/teddy bear?

I would be totally interested in the book rec meme-thing. I'm always looking for good books to read and leading other people to amazing novels that they might not have heard of otherwise.

TBD! All three are pretty badass--it's hard to decide who's the badassest of them all. (That's totally a word now.)

I love the idea of a bood rec meme! I'm gonna brainstorm some ideas for how it might work, and perhaps I'll get it up this weekend.

I think River Tam would win it, just because she's the type to really want the stuffed bear.

O_O!

Uh, oops. The 'Thicker Than Water' I read was Mike Carey and the 'A Gentleman's Game' was Greg Rucka. :D

(Huh, the Thicker Than Water on that list sounds maybe interesting o_o)

Ha! I had to guess, since you didn't specify who wrote what. I'll have to fix that, then. :P

I didn't realise both of those titles would have different books.

I must resist giving you heck over seeing me reading a golf book as opposed to a tough lady globetraveling British spy. 8)

Truth be told--I did find them both to be rather odd book selections. Thicker Than Water (the one I listed) looks intense: like, seriously upsetting. IDEK, man.

I looked up a longer review - holy crap! That DOES sound seriously disturbing. I thought the 'Thicker Than Water' that I read was disturbing, to the point of "is this hardly FUN" at one point... but Mein Bog, the one you found sounds just as much of a nightmare!

That spreadsheet looks so exciting. And Zazzle just gave me money so I might even be able to afford to buy a new book!(As in, a not-second-hand new book, which are getting ridiculously expensive if you want anything other than John fucking Grisham). ::drools over pretty list some more::

I missed the rec post, but I can add one that I really liked from a number of years ago that I'm pretty sure no-one ever heard of, if you're interested:

Bel Canto, by Anne Patchett - it's about a group of dignitaries and and opera singer being taken hostage for over a month in a manor somewhere in South America (I forget where, it says in the book). It's one of few books modern books I was forced to read in Literature that I actually liked. It's got romance and it's a thriller, because, y'know, hostage situation for the whole novel.

::slinks away to pretend she doesn't read again::

Romance and a thriller sounds good! I'm a fan of both. (I'm making myself finish the post-apocalyptic sci-fi novel I started before I read the romance novel I just bought. Yes: I bought a BRAND NEW BOOK from an actual BOOKSTORE! So, it was only a trade paperback. Meh. :P)

I love buying books, but I recognize that A. I don't have money for them and B. I don't have room for them. I'm trying to stick with library books for the moment, but GUH, is it tough! Especially now that my library now contains a used bookstore...

I got some really good recs on that list! I am going to have to comb through all of them and see what I can find from the library. (Oh, and fix the spreadsheet so that it contains the books [livejournal.com profile] jesterjoker actually recced...)

So what do you think of my idea to host a book rec meme on my journal? Sort of like a friending meme, but with people posting recs and/or describing the kind of book they're looking for? You seem like you would have some good ideas on how it might work. :D

Yes!

Real Life kept me from commenting on your recent posts. I have been stalking reading, though. Was very relieved that your head bump turned out to be little more than a particularly vivid beauty mark. ♥

Hallo! Glad real life hasn't eaten you whole. Yes, I survived the Scandal of the Bump: thanks to the antibiotics, it is now a shadow of its former self!

I'm thinking of launching the book rec meme tomorrow night. Stay tuned! :P
