Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Just wanted to share some pics I took today of Hines Park / the Rouge River when I was taking my brother's dog for a walk today. Even though I didn't have a proper camera and took them on my crappy Samsung, I think they came out pretty well...especially with a hyperactive shepherd/boxer mix pulling at me every time I stopped!

All attempts at photographing the dog ended up in motion blur. Girl's got energy! :)

Thank you! I was going to work in a Robert Frost reference with that picture, but then I realized I was actually smushing together two poems: "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" and "The Road Not Taken".

But suffice to say, there is something inspiring about snowy paths!

Everyone else is getting the nice, clingy wet snow in this mess. We had nice big oatmeal flakes for a little bit last night, but nothing stuck and today we've just had wind and tiny bits of airborne ice, which is no fun at all for anyone because you can't even do anything with it and it's not pretty, either. It's kind of ridiculous to have snow and miss snow at the same time, but Chicago snow is dumb.

Thank you! It was maddening trying to get them...I took many, many more than I posted. I would stand there lining everything up, trying to place everything in frame the way I wanted it, and then the dog would take off at a gallop and jerk me out of position!

City snow is always lame. Even when it does stick, there's always too much activity churning it up for it to stay pretty for long.

I took these pictures mid-blizzard, as you can tell from the river pics. (I was SO PSYCHED that the falling snow showed up in the pics!) However, when the snow was falling, the temp was a few degrees above freezing; you can see it's kinda wet and drippy in the close-up pics. However, now it's well below freezing, which means all the lovely, fluffy snow will freeze into a hard, icy shell overnight. BOO!

It was perfect for making snowballs this afternoon. I was throwing them for Roxie (the dog) to fetch, and she was so proud when she was able to find one to bring back to me, and so devastated when it crumbled in her mouth before she could retrieve it!

Snow. o_o

I like snow less than I used to, but when the blizzard happened the other day and the wind screamed, I did like it. It's disturbing that extreme weather fills me with optimism, though there you go. :D

I've always liked storms! (Provided I don't have anywhere to get to.) Though, a suppose it could be a survival mechanism I adapted growing up in MI. ;)

There should be some sort of Nothern/Southern hemisphere exchange program, so you could come frolic in the snow, and I could soak up a little sunshine! (Do you have any yet, or is it still rainy?)

We had about two weeks of summer, then a week of days ending in thunderstorms, but the weather is looking up again. I mean, it's 2:30 am and not at all cold, and the sky is very clear, so we're expecting a warm one tomorrow.

Sounds HEAVENLY! Also: sounds very much like summer in Michigan! I always refer to August as Monsoon Season with all the storms we get.

Although, it's coming on 11 am here, and the day looks just gorgeous! There is actual sunshine!!! I think I'm going to take the dog out to a park again, since I have the day off from work. (SNOW DAY!)
