My brother is getting married, this January we do believe, and my future sister-in-law has asked me to be a bridesmaid. I have mixed feelings about this, but she is a sweetheart and I'm touched that she asked, so of course I said yes. (The fact that my mother threatened me against saying "no" also had some influence.)

This is the color she has chosen for the dresses:

bright blue dress

It really is a very pretty color, but it is going to look wretched on my pasty pale skin! Oh, how I can't wait to have framed photos of me looking like a chronically ill prom date plastered everywhere!

Here's another set of warm-up questions I posed to my students; as always, feel free to give them a try for a virtual kudos!

questions of the day

If you're having trouble seeing the picture, it depicts 10 red marbles, 7 blue marbles, and 3 orange marbles. The questions are:

  1. How many more blue marbles are there than orange marbles?
  2. What fraction of the marbles are red?
  3. What is the ratio of blue marbles to the total number of marbles?
  4. What percent of the marbles are orange?

That is quite a pretty blue! Will the dress be in that style? I hate that strapless dresses are the thing. I never feel strapless dresses really work for more than 5% of people... Hopefully you are one of them! :D

I am a massive makeup whore, so if you're not and you want to brainstorm about ways of making the blue work for you just let me know.

No, that's just one of the dresses I grabbed off the website; I don't think she's made her final selection yet. And no, I am not a person for whom strapless dresses work! I'm a bit busty, and therefore spend the whole evening hiking the dress back up over my boobs.

I'm pretty handy with makeup myself, but I'd love to get outside input. I'll post a picture of me in the dress once I have one.

BOOB HIGH FIVE! Or maybe BOOBSMISH? I am very boobalicious.

YAY that you like makeup. I looove it, particularly eyeshadow. I have a fairly epic collection of eyeshadow. Everyone in Paris seems to wear conservative makeup, which makes me go >_<. Eh, I shall break out the crazy colours anyway, screw them and their French chic!

SMISH!

Love me some eyeshadow; I have just about every color of the rainbow, and not enough occasions to wear any of it. My job situation is very casual, so if I showed up all glammed up in sparkly eyeshadow, it would look a little odd.

On the plus side, though, I can do it up for Halloween, so look out for that! (Last year I wore a red velvet cape and a long black dress. The cape may reappear this year, if I don't something else I want to wear more.)

Haha, I take EVERY opportunity I can to wear ridiculous eye makeup. Sometimes I just make myself up at home and take photos of myself like a big camho. I directed a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream last year and one of my favourite things was coming up with the makeup designs!! (Not usually a director's job, but anyhoo...)

I look forward to super sexxay Hallowen pics!

Oh, you gorgeous girl, you! I saw A Midsummer Night's Dream for the millionth time this summer, and one of my favorite parts is always the gorgeous makeup and costume design of the fairies.

Don't expect anything too sexy for a Halloween costume, as I will be wearing the costume to work where I tutor children. *disapproving look*

Lol, hopefully I'll have a party to go to! I lucked out the last couple years, but sometimes it's hard to find grown-ups who like to dress up and party. I LOVE Halloween, kind of a ridiculous amount.

Just be glad it's not something like orange taffeta with mammoth shoulder ruffles...

Hallelujah to the lack of orange! But she actually hasn't picked out the dress style yet, so we're not out of the woods re: shoulder ruffles yet. *crosses fingers*

I PRESENT TO YOU VIRTUAL KUDOS FOR YOUR QUESTIONS. Because I am too tired to actually try them myself, although I admit I am sorely tempted. xD

And the dress colour is lovely, bb! Blue is my favourite colour, and although you say you have pale skin, I actually think that colour looks better on skin not so tanned as the model in the picture. Honest!

I'm hoping that's true; however, I tend to look really washed-out in jewel tones. Stay tuned to find out if I end up looking like a giant blue freak!

Is that Horizon? I feel like such a dork even knowing David's Bridal colours, but I was just in a friend's wedding a month ago, and she had all of us in that colour (or something very similar). Most of us are pretty much of a pasty nature (even during the summer), and none of us looked terrible in it. It also varies quite a bit depending on what kind of fabric the dress is. I was gonna say that I have lots of pictures of us so you can see regular people in that shade of blue, but her wedding photographer did a lot of mucking about with the hues and saturation, so it doesn't really look true-to life in any of them. (-;

OMG, that is Horizon! And I'm amazed you knew it was David't Bridal, too. Virtual head pat to you for knowing your colors!

I'm glad to hear it works on pasty girls, because in the middle of January, my skin is practically translucent. (My dad calls me powder.) I'm thinking, though, with the right makeup and hair color, it won't be a problem. Now I'll just cross my fingers that she doesn't go strapless!

I hear you about the dress color - when my best friend asked me to be her maid of honor, I was really excited. Then she told me her colors were going to be pale pink and lavender, and I look terrible in both those colors. But I think that color would actually look good on someone with pale skin, especially if the material wasn't really shiny. So you might not end up looking like a chronically ill prom date after all! :)

So everyone keeps saying! I'll have to take the advice everyone's giving me, and assume the color won't be a problem.

Oh dear--pale pink AND lavender? Together?
