So, Delicious is most likely going the way of the Dodo, and fandom is abuzz. WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO WITHOUT IT?

I know that, in the months to come, a preferred alternative to the service is going to emerge, and fandom will all migrate there, and peace shall be restored. In the meantime, I don't want to mess around getting used to a new service if it's not going to stick. So, I've created a poll to gauge an idea of which new service people are leaning towards.

For a discussion of you options, bookshop has a run-down of the current candidates here. Go and read the article, then come back here to vote! And if you know of anyone on your flist with an opinion, send them here to cast their vote: the more participants we have, the more valid the data!

I am already A03 but will probably go with Diigo since a lot of people I know already use it. Also, will probably use Google bookmarks since I already use it too even though I suspect it won't be as useful in the future.

I'm on AO3 as well, but I've never used their bookmarking service. (Except for the two AO3 fics I have bookmarked...)

Diigo might win out, but I have yet to try it.

(Bah, love your OT4 icon! I'm all about the OT3 personally, but River does show up in a lot of smut.) ;)

I've got both Diigo and Pinboard accounts so right now I'm importing to both and seeing which one I like best. They both seem pretty good for personal bookmarking but I think Diigo will probably be better for the interactive sharing aspect of things? Especially as many people won't be willing to pay for Pinboard. I do prefer the minimalist pages in Pinboard though.

For me, whichever one develops a toolbar/Firefox Add-on like the one I have for Delicious will end up being my favorite: it's just so convenient for bookmarking. But yeah, it seems Diigo and Pinboard are the two frontrunners, unless some other service steps up to fill the gap.

They both have bookmarklets you can add to your top bar! I've been using the Pinboard one all day and it's fine. I've not been able to get the Diigo one working yet, but I suspect that's because my account's stuck in the middle of importing.

Now it seems like Yahoo's going to sell instead of shutting down, but I'm still worried what'll happen if they can't sell it off. URGH. Probably I'll just keep backing up till there's some sort of definite decision :/

Well hooray for bookmarklets! Good, that's one concern dealt with. (I really do need to quit whining and actually go TRY SOME OF THESE SERVICES for myself!)

Yes, Yahoo, sell to Google! (I, for one, welcome the eventual domination of the world by our benevolent leaders...)

NOOOO, not Delicious! I hadn't heard it was being shut down till now, and I'm feeling a little asfdjkld because I've got everything on there. I'll probably sign up for a few that seem most promising and see which one works best. Sigh.

I'm bummed, to say the least. My personal bookmark collection isn't huge, but I have a separate account I use to archive prompts for a meme, and THAT is what I'm worried about moving!

Something else will be launched. There's been no point trying to rival Delicious directly up til now, so the variants all do something slightly different; if Delicious is going away, someone'll be into the gap in the market like a shot. Or possibly even, given the amount of ARG there's been at the announcement, Yahoo might even decide it's worth keeping. Very much not panicking here.

Oh, I completely agree! I KNOW something else is going to come along and replace Delicious, so in that sense I'm not worried: I just want to know which service it's going to be RIGHT NOW, so that I don't spend months fooling around with different systems I'm only going to end up abandoning. ;) (I'm the anon who archived the unfilled prompts for eleventy_kink, and I put a lot of time into it! I won't know how difficult it's going to be to move all those bookmarks until I get off my butt, quit whining, and see what the 'export' function of theirs can do. It's losing the tags that really hurts!)

I suppose, as someone who just uses other people's efforts, I can afford to be a bit more relaxed. But then again, if there's already enough work gone into it that you wouldn't want to do it again, any extra work that goes into delicious now wouldn't be futile because you'd still want to save everything if at all possible, and I feel certain that it will be possible.

That just MIGHT have made my day when I saw that. But really, sorting and cataloguing the products of Who fandoms Id was right up my alley, as I enjoy both kink and data sorting. Yippee!

I'll come up with something, to be sure. I need something to do while I'm looking for a job! (It's just too bad "Sci-Fi Porn Archivist" wouldn't be as impressive on my CV as I think it should.)

I have to admit I never used delicious to the full extent of its capabilities, although I have it as a Firefox add-on and as an app on my iPhone.

I'm not too panicked about it. If Yahoo isn't interested in it anymore, someone else will cherry-pick the best parts of the service and come up with something better.

The tech development world is a very strange place. On the one hand, it's all happy-happy-love-love, where all the Netscape guys fall off the ship but get right back on again with Firefox. On the other hand, everyone and their father has a hate-on for the allegedly open-source folks at Adobe, and that's why Flash is dead in the water.

Who knows what will happen with delicious? The only guarantee right now is that it will come back in some other form and be more awesome than before...
