GRAPHICS HELP!

apple_pathwaysAll right, so I am in the process of changing my layout. I've made the new banner, but here is my dilemma: I suck at putting text on images. I am by far best at textless images and icons.
For anyone out there who does graphics stuff: do you have tips for placing text on an image?
And for anyone with eyes: What do you think of the new banner?
What do you think of the text? Font? Position? Overall effect? If you don't like where I've placed the text, where would you put it? Should it be bigger or smaller? Etc.
(Oh, also: I know some of the layers don't match up. Will fix that later!)
now I am off to tutor children and pretend that I am capable of making decisions. :P Later!
