Or to blow them, rather. (All right, you can stop snickering now!) I finally gave blowing eggs (that is: removing all the whites and yolks while leaving the shell intact) a try, and it was surprisingly easy! If you'd like to give it a go yourself,
here's the tutorial I used.
All of which is to say: I decorated Easter eggs today! And made some lovely holiday banners for all to use, if you're so inclined...

Techniques used to decorate eggs:- The black and white eggs are the "blown" eggs. After removing the insides, I drew on the designs with a black Sharpie marker. (Here is the blog where I got the inspiration. Definitely a must-bookmark!)
- To get the bold white stripes/designs I cut out pieces of electrical tape and stuck them on before dipping the eggs in the dye.
- The colored stripes come from wrapping rubber bands around the eggs before dipping them into various colors. I was excited to try this, as I have a big bag of rubber bands from crafting. Well, turns out they were too skinny and not rubbery enough to stay put on the eggs. The bands that worked best were the thick, wide rubber bands you get off produce like asparagus and broccoli. We had quite a few of those, as my mother takes after her mom who survived the depression and saved EVERYTHING, but we only had enough to do one egg. Boo.
