I has written a meme!

I had so much fun talking about music with the last meme, I have decided to come up with another one. (And if it serves to distract me from my first day of classes tomorrow, all the better!)

SO! The rules are simple:

  1. Fill out as many or as few of the questions as you like. (But do copy and paste them all, so others can answer.)
  2. Politely invite your friends to do the same, if they so wish.
  3. Spread the mirth!

Because I care about your F List,

What song was #1 in the charts in your country when you were born?
The year was 1982; the song was Physical by Olivia Newton John. *is ashamed*

What was the first album you ever owned?
Hangin' Tough by New Kids on the Block. (It was peer pressure, I tell you!)

If you have iTunes, what are your top 3 songs by play count?
  1. (63 plays) Sleepyhead, by Passion Pit (I went through a weird phase with this song where I listened to it A LOT.)
  2. (60 plays) New Slang, by The Shins
  3. (57 plays) The King of Carrot Flowers pt. 1, by Neutral Milk Hotel

(It's probably worth noting that these playcounts are only as old as my computer: about two years.)

What’s the longest song in your collection?
At 13:10, it's a version of Merry Happy by Kate Nash that includes a hidden bonus track.

What’s the shortest?
It's a tie (at 23 seconds) between Lull II: My Lad's a Canny Lad and Lull III: A Minor Place, both by Rachel Unthank and the Winterset.

Most recently added song:
The Suburbs: continued, by Arcade Fire

What’s the most embarrassing song in your collection?
I've thought long and hard about this and settled on: White Gurl, by E-40 Feat. Bun B, Pimp C, & Juelz Santana. It's a song about cocaine! And it's so thug, and misogynist, and just completely out of place on my liberal indie hipster music list!

"Well down in the dirty...south to be exact, gettin' money with white gurls is a well known fact. I like 'em black, brown, Puerto Rican or Asian, but nothin' bring the bread back like a caucasian."

If you need me, I'll be under this rock...

Favorite workout song:
I have two: one is Bombs Over Baghdad (B.O.B.) by Outkast; the other is Sabotage by The Beastie Boys. I love to run to that one: I always pretend I'm running across rooftops like in the music video.

Go-to emo song:
Lover I Don't Have to Love, by Bright Eyes. (The KING of emo!)

The song you think you’ll dance to at your wedding/commitment ceremony: This might sound a little strange, but right now it's The Hazards of Love 4: The Drowned by The Decemberists.

Song that best describes you: Right now, I think it's Little Bit, by Lykke Li. "I think that I'm a little bit...in love with you, but only if you're a little bit...in love with me." Perfectly describes my hesitance to admit my feelings, and my desire for someone else to admit theirs first.

The song you want played at your funeral:
Silly choice: (Don't Fear) The Reaper, by Blue Öyster Cult
Serious choice: Fire and Rain, by James Taylor

Favorite classical song:
Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 in C-Sharp Minor, by Franz Liszt

Favorite Beatles song:
Probably I Wanna Hold Your Hand, it's so sweet and fun; I've been really into early Beatles lately. (And it's all because of a beautifully written Who porn fic! Go figure...)

Most obscure artist in your collection:
They came up on the other meme: Berrogüetto. They're a Galician folk band; they're pretty awesome, even if I don't know what they're singing...

Favorite cover version of a song:
Sweet Jane, by The Cowboy Junkies (original version by The Velvet Underground).

Song you sing when you’re imagining you’re a rock star:
Paint it Black, by The Rolling Stones

Favorite show tune:
Suddenly Seymour, from Little Shop of Horrors; or One Song Glory, from Rent.

Bounce around the room song:
These days, it's Home, by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes.

A song that makes you cry:
Despite being an atheist, there are several songs on John Denver and The Muppets album A Christmas Together that make me weep; seriously, it's so beautiful! (I know, I know: you're still giggling over "John Denver and the Muppets", right?)

Take this from Alfie the Christmas Tree (basically a poem with instrumentals):

You see some folks have never heard a jingle bell ring
And they’ve never heard of Santa Claus
They’ve never heard the story of the Son of God
That made Alfie pause

Did that mean that they’d never know of peace on earth?
Or the brotherhood of man?
Or know how to love, or know how to give?
If they can’t, no one can

*cue the WEEPING!* Here's a link to the video.

Well, that's it, folks! If you're so inclined, fill it out so I can see your answers; feel free to add any questions if you like.

Yeah, I'm totally going to second what I said before - your taste in music is awesome. :) The Hazards of Love is one of my favorite albums...I like to listen to The Rake's Song at top volume in my car. And Kate Nash! I love her, Pumpkin Soup is one of my "cheer up, buttercup" songs. And Bright Eyes and BOC and Paint It Black (though I have to say I'm partial to Can't Get No Satisfaction if I'm going to bring out the air guitar, lol)!

How are we supposed to find the #1 song of a year? Or do we list the #1 song from the week we were born?

Running to Sabotage! Quality stuff, although I suspect I'd want to be throwing in pointlessly dramatic rolls or something.

D: I basically can't do this meme because a) I don't remember answers to a lot of them, and b) I don't have a music player anymore, I only use my iPod with outdated music, so I have no idea what's my longest song etc. *facepalm*

I imagine either/or would work; I looked up the song that was #1 for the week/year I was born ages ago and can't remember where I did. When I get home I'll do some Googling and get back to you!

You should fill this out, then we can bask together in the awesomeness of our music tastes! (And pretend that I did NOT just check out the movie soundtrack to Hot Tub Time Machine from the library...)

You have no idea! I imagine I'm quite the spectacle at my gym; I often catch myself singing along (out loud...) or imitating dance moves...

But, but...you can answer "as many or as few of the questions as you like!"

*stomps foot* FINE, be that way! :D

OH ALL RIGHT BB! Because I adore you! <3 I'll do the only two I can do without straining my brain. xD

Go-to emo song:
Breathe No More by Evanescence. That one I can answer really easily. xD

Favorite show tune:
ANYTHING FROM WICKED. \o/

Yay!

Wow, I'm getting really good at brow-beating people into things...I should go into sales!

I'm not familiar with either of your choices, though, so I'll have to look them up when I get home.

Oh god, the Hot Tub Time Machine soundtrack. Now I have Safety Dance stuck in my head.

Weeeell, since you twisted my arm I filled it out as well. Lol, I love any excuse to talk about music.

(We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind. 'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance, well they're no friends of mine. IT HURTS MY BRAIN.)

THAT IS THE SONG THAT SOLD ME ON THE SOUNDTRACK!

Seriously, I was perusing the new CDs in my library's collection, and I thought, "Why on earth do they have the soundtrack to Hot Tub Time Machine? Who wants this...hey, Safety Dance!"

Also Push It by Salt & Pepa.

We can dance! We can dance! Everybody look at your hands...
