The children are full of plague. Half of them are coming in with coughs and runny noses: they sit there sniffling and hacking, refusing tissues when I offer. "BLOW YOUR NOSE!" I insist, thrusting the box of Kleenex at them. "AND THEN USE THIS!" (The bottle of hand sanitizer.)

When they leave, I cover everything in a thick mist of Lysol. We'll see if my precautions work. I spent the entire month of November sick with bronchitis and a sinus infection: I may be immune to whatever bug is currently making the rounds, or I may not. If I need to go see the doctor for antibiotics again, I'm hitting up the parents for donations to pay my doctor bills.

LOL!

I applaud your precautions, but (she sniffled miserably) I feel so damn awful myself (allergies) that I'm not really up for yelling at the students. They've pretty much walked all over me today. Which recollection doesn't make me feel better AT ALL.

Plague carriers, all of them! Bah!

I was going to ask what you could possibly be allergic to, then I remembered: you live in California, and therefore everything pollen-producing is probably not currently covered in a foot of snow! My sympathies. Though I eagerly await the eventual thaw, I DO NOT look forward to the spring sinus headaches when the trees start to bud!

My grandfather used to swear that a good, stiff drink could cure a cold. In his honor, I've decided to pour myself a Crown Royal and Diet Dr. Pepper! Drinking on a Tuesday? That's right! I live dangerously!

You need a little liquid courage if you're playing drill sergeant all day tomorrow too ;) (Though I wonder if your grandfather meant that if it knocked you out/made you sick you would totally forget why you drank it to begin with? Maybe not, but I always suspected that's what my uncle meant by it...!)

It won't be all day: I'm a tutor, so I work afternoons/evenings. But yeah: I fancyed a bit of a drink while perusing LJ, so I thought: perhaps tonight is the night I become a 1920s gentleman and indulge in a nightcap! :P (Thought I highly doubt Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper counts for that purpose...)

My grandpa used to drink this cheap blackberry-flavored brandy that could strip the paint off the walls. I don't doubt its magical powers to kill any and all germs invading the body! (Along with half your brain cells...)

Dear Sir--

Oh yeah. Some people don't tutor full-time. Normally I feel superior about this, but not tonight... if you know anyplace that still sells that brandy, lemme know... ;)

Respectfully Yours,
[illegible scrawl]

::gets out megaphone:: Don't come near me, I've got a blocked nose. It could be a cold. ::pulls on hazmat suit::

I have never had any success with disinfectant, though. I'm either going to get the cold, or not (usually get, but in a drawn out, have the sniffles and feel tired for a month sense instead of getting it bad for a couple of days and then feeling fine).

The main reason I get super-paranoid: I don't have health insurance.

The last time I got sick, it turned into bronchitis and a major sinus infection before I bit the bullet and went to the doctor. That was November, and I should finish paying the bill by the end of this month! :P

I'm usually pretty hearty. I work with kids, so my immune system is pretty up-to-date on the latest infections. That last illness was really out of the ordinary for me! (Though I am weirdly prone to ear infections: I tend to get about 4/year. Though they tend to go away on their own.)

I can't imagine needing health insurance unless I was really sick and/or wealthy (and even then, probably not, because healthcare is cheap here). I get my doctor's visits for free and my prescriptions for under $10 without fail.

And yet I still won't got to the doctor unless I am in pain for days. I am so sensible with my health.

Another privilege of being American: you get to pay through the nose for basic health care! But we don't need national health care, no...it's just those filthy degenerate drug addicts and welfare freeloaders who can't afford health care. (She said, not at all bitterly...)

Ok, moving on now before I get myself even more worked up...
