Ain't no party like a Doctor Who party...

'cause a Doctor Who party don't stop. (It just takes a f*ing hiatus after seven episodes for NO GOOD REASON. :P)

So, I want to hang out on the internets and flail about the mid-series finale of Doctor Who, but social obligations dictate I must leave the house. (Why must people inconveniently schedule their grad school celebration parties on the days of epic Who episodes???)

*OMG, River is Amy and Rory's BABY! ...on second thought, that theory's been around forever. I'm glad that's the one they went with, but still: DAMN YOU Who fans and your ability to correctly predict major plot twists!

*Rory and Amy's reunion! ♥ ♥ ♥ "I was going to be cool." Oh, Rory darling: you will never be cool, and that's why we love you! (I was going to rewatch this scene over and over and over again, but now I'm afraid the whole thing will be slightly spoiled knowing that cuddling a Flesh!baby. *shakes fist* DAMN YOU gooey Flesh!baby!

*Moffat: PLEASE stop hitting us over the head with your Big Important Points. We are not idiots. You had River say "He'll rise higher than he ever has." We heard it! We know what it means! We do NOT need a character to come out and say THE SAME EXACT THING again in order to 'get it'. WE GOT IT! Now: NO MORE ANVILS, please, our heads are rather tender! (And while I have your attention: the name of the episode is allowed to be spoken out loud ONCE per episode! No exceptions!)

*Centurion!Rory! And Amy as a mum is SO CUTE...I cried. (Fortunately, this time I was alone, and no one came upstairs all concerned to see what was wrong with me.)

Ok, I gotta get going now! But here's some questions I have:
*How did Eyepatch Lady get away from Rory?
*Where did the Doctor go at the end?
*Was that whole scene where they had the Doctor pinpoint exactly when the Pondling was conceived really necessary? (It was cute, but just a little long!)
*When can we expect the spin-off series with the Victorian Silurian Lady Detective and her ~~lesbian lover~~ sidekick to air?

Ok, I gotta go: please leave me some squee and/or griping and/or thinky thoughts! I will be spending the evening with people who've never even heard of Doctor Who, and it's inevitable that I am going to get a bit tipsy, forget this fact, and then spend a good 20 minutes trying to explain the show to people who COULD NOT CARE LESS and/or are just humoring me.

LOVE THIS SHOW SO SO MUCH! I wrote a squee post too but failed to elaborate because I'm still wrapping my head around the AWESOME.

I cried too when Amy and Rory reunited. I knew I would cry at some point in the episode and had my tissue ready. Oh show, I love you.

River = Amy and Rory's daughter. I keep away from the speculation so I had no idea that theory was even floating around. I love it. It's a bit weird, but I absolutely loved the big reveal.

This show = so much awesome. Sigh.

I ♥ Amy and Rory so much! They are just too sweet as a couple. I also grinned when Rory called her "Mrs. Williams". Oh, you poor darling: never gonna happen!

I wonder if I should keep away from speculation in the future. I'd really hate to, because I love speculating about what's going to happen. Usually it's fine, because what I think is going to happen and what actually happens rarely match up. But this time, I was pretty convinced that River was going to turn out to be Rory and Amy's daughter. (I'm still psyched that that's the case--just think: Amy is going to be the Doctor's Mother-in-Law! *hijinks ensue*)

GAH! *plugs ears* Spoilers spoilers spoilers! (Also: MAJORLY BUMMING ME OUT!)

I just hope we get time for funny and awkward, in between all the major plot-arc-y developments. (And please no more awkward segues like in The Curse of the Black Spot! "It's all about the little girl! We have to find out who she is! But who's up for an adventure first?" WHAT. I'm sorry, but: WHAT?!)

Oh sorry! I don't think they're spoilers...just awful speculation. Rory will be back and will stick around forever! Truth!

Hahaha, the Curse of the Black Spot was so unfair after all the questions that popped up in TIA and DOTM. So hopefully we will get some fun stories with actual answers to the crazy plot holes.

Just think, when we finish the second half of the season we'll have that many fewer weeks to wait until the next season. (This is the only thought that will make me feel better. WTF AM I GOING TO DO WITH MYSELF THIS SUMMER, THERE IS NOTHING ON TV!)

Eeeee, I know! And then the Doctor cooing over their baby! I just: I think I've found my OT3! I love my Team TARDIS so much, I'm really worried about how I'll adjust when they're replaced! (Sure, I'll move on...but it's gonna hurt, I'm NGL!)

My exposure to Whodom tends to be limited to my flist and

doctoreleven. (My headquarters for squee and new pics/interviews with the cast.) Even in that limited circle, I'd seen the River = Amy + Rory's daughter theory pop up more than once! (I'm happy that was the case--it's better than a lot of other theories that were floating around!)

I do really like it, though, it... makes a lot of things about River more okay with me.

Yes, I am hoping that a lack of television will mean more time for fic writing. HAHAHA we'll see how that turns out.

River was... a very troubling character to me. I don't dislike her, and there are many things I like about her a lot (for instance, the way she's treated the TARDIS like a lady from the get-go). But I was uncomfortable with how she was presented to us, what she represented. I'm not sure how I feel about a Doctor in a romantic and sexual relationship (although I admit, Eleven's kind of selling me on the idea, he's so giddy and adorable), and she knows all these things about him... his name, how to fly the TARDIS better than he can, all of these personal things that none of the companions know... and I wasn't sure I liked that. Like, you know, why this woman, what's so special about her? ...Well, now we know what's so special about her. She spends her childhood on the TARDIS, she grows up with the TARDIS and the Doctor... now the relationship doesn't seem so forced; of course they know each other really really really well and have been on a billion adventures together.

A lot of people disliked River for that reason: they felt she was too smug, too knowing, and far too close to the Doctor without 'earning' it. While I can definitely see where everyone was coming from, there was just something I found inherently likeable about the character that made me overlook all that. (Thought I've said it before and I'll say it again: thank God Moff has given the catchphrases a rest! The poor, poor woman has been given some pretty damn stupid and annoying things to say over the course of her run.)

Giddy adorable Eleven could sell me crap on a stick! His childish enthusiasm just makes everything Ok! Though: it is hard to imagine a childlike Eleven in any sort of adult relationship, especially with River Song. I mean, for God's sake: the poor man couldn't even work out that the Ponds just might have had sex on the TARDIS on their wedding night! But he does seem to enjoy flirting with her. We'll just assume it all works out somehow!

Now I have to go hide under a rock, as I realize that I've written both Amy/River femslash (of a PGish, innuendo-only variety) and River/Rory (full on sex). *slaps forehead* This is what happens when you 'ship irresponsibly!

Wasn't she adorable?! I'm really glad they used a real baby for most of the scenes--it really heightened the emotions in the episode!

I want that spin off so bad! Also I loved the doctor speaking baby. You should call her mummy not big milk thing!

I really don't like that she is their baby. I figured it out at the start of the episode and I really don't like it. Also I now suspect she killed Rory and that's why she's in prison and I hate it. I think this because they keep doing the bait and switch thing where you think they're talking about the doctor but its him and I had theorised she killed the doctor. Also she does kill the doctor. Also we know she dies and that's not fair because she is Amy and Rory's baby. I am very cross. It was an awesome episode though.

Yeah, I'm afraid this is what the show's hinting at, too: DNW! Noooo!!! I'm already preparing myself for the idea that it won't be my Team TARDIS in the blue box next series, but I don't know how I'm going to be able to cope if there isn't even a possibility of an Amy/Rory cameo in future episodes! (Also: River killing her dad is just far too angst-worthy for my tastes. YOU ARE HEADING DOWN DARK CORRIDORS, Moffat my dear! We don't our show going all mopey-whiny-teary-eyed AGAIN!)

She does die. But hey, at least she has awesome adventures first, right? And she gets to choose her death at a time when it will do the most good. She gets to be all noble and self-sacrificing and save the Doctor! When he doesn't even know who she is to be properly grateful! That's pretty damn cool.

Of course Eleven speaks Baby--he speaks everything! *snerk*

Oh no I don't like that theory! I love Rory too much and killing him AGAIN and forever would rip my heart to shreds. I hope Moffat realises how much people love Rory and that should be reason enough to keep him.

I figured that the "good man" River kills is the Doctor (as does everyone else, I guess). My cockamamie theory is that the Impossible Astronaut is River - maybe a Ganger? or maybe the Ganger is the River on the banks? - and she gets sent off for that. It all made so much more sense in my head earlier today but on paper it really does sound an awful theory.

It doesn't sound loony! I think that too!

No see that's part of why I think she kills Rory. I had already thought the man she was in prison for killing was the Doctor. Then we find out she is the child in the suit. And they keep doing this thing this season where they make you think Amy is talking about the Doctor but its Rory.

True, there is a lot of "OMG is she talking about the Doctor?" but nooo of course she means Rory. They did that when Amy's talking to Melody and I was like, seriously just stop. We know it's Rory.

Sigh, I guess I just love Rory so much that I don't want him getting killed. But it would be (dare I say it?) different if Rory's the "good man" and not the Doctor, which I guess is a wonderful red herring to throw us all off.

1. Hooraaay space lesbians! I love the Silurian and Jenny.

2. OMGWTFBBQYAY I love that they went there with River Song. It really makes me quite happy. My mom and I were chatting about it and we realized that River is SO MUCH like her mother in a lot of ways (the sassiness and sexy comments, etc).

3. This was maybe my favorite Rory episode. Between the badass "Where is my wife?" and "Would you like me to repeat the question?" and then the "I was gonna be cool" I just fell in love with his character all over again. He's so excellent.

4. Amy as a mommy made me extremely happy. I wasn't sure it would suit her, but it so totally does.

5. SQUEE.

1. There is no way we can't not see them again. (Got that? :P) Between them, the crazy Sontaran nurse, Lorna Bucket, blue guy...that's just too many awesome characters to throw at us for one or two eps!

2. Definitely! River has definitely got her mom's sass. :D

3. Oh, Rory being competent and a badass, and yet still so utterly vulnerable and geeky around Amy? SO MUCH ♥♥♥s! The idea of watching him be a dad is just making my heart melt.

4. She was such a cute mommy! Very natural. You just know the Pond girl's fierceness is going to extend to her mothering practices! No wonder River's such a badass. :D

1. I really hope we get to see a lot of them again. I remember blue guy from a previous episode with River Song, but I don't think we've seen the others before. I hope they return.

RORY POND YOU PRECIOUS BRILLIANT MAN YOU ARE GETTING A HUG EVEN IF I HAVE TO BECOME FICTIONAL TO GIVE IT TO YOU. ♥ ♥ ♥ I loved him right from the very beginning but this episode, from "where is my wife?" to "I was gonna be cool", just reminded me of why I think he is so great. Snaps for you, Arthur Darvill!

I'm...not sure how I feel about River being superhuman as well as Amy and Rory's daughter. I had heard all the speculation about it before. And I figured it out myself within the first five minutes of the show...my brain went "Melody Pond, that's such a pretty name. Moffat seems to pick a lot of pretty names for female characters...Sally Sparrow, Kathy Nightingale, Amelia Pond, River Song...wait hold on, Pond, River OMIGOD RIVER'S MELODY POND." I had been expecting it to be something nobody had thought of, so to find out that most of fandom had already guessed it was a bit of a letdown.

The Silurian Lady Detective and her BFF were awesome. I would totally watch a spinoff of the two of them. Someone better be writing fic!

So, does this mean River = regenerating child from DOTM? If it is her, why didn't she remember any of the events of TIA/DOTM? That makes Amy shooting her even more horrifying - I mean, she just shot HER DAUGHTER. IN THE FACE. Mother of the Year award right there.

RTD, I love you, but Moffat is just so much better at writing amazing one-off characters. The Silurian Lady Detective and Jenny, the big blue guy (I'm so bad with names it's ridiculous), the Sontaran nurse...WIN.

Y'know, I wouldn't really say that the Doctor "fell further than ever before" in this episode. Seriously? This was worse than the Time War? The Master dying (well, the first time)? Saving the base on Mars? I don't buy it.

Rory. RORY RORY RORY! AHHH! OMG, why is he not real? ~~and in my bed?~~ Oh, I am such a sucker for a vulnerable nerd with a sense of nobility. I was worried the "Where. Is. My. Wife???" line was going to be a little...awkward. But Darvill just sold it perfectly! (And it helped that it was followed by the LOLarious line, "Oh, don't give me those blank looks!")

River as a superhuman...yeah. I don't know. I'm willing to wait and see what he superpowers end up being.

See, I'm in the camp that's not totally convinced that Spacesuit!girl is absolute Melody Pond/River Song! I still think she could turn out to be someone else entirely. Yeah, it would be awkward to introduce yet another little girl with Time Lord traits at this point, but it's most definitely possible! And:

That is a very good point! (In fact, I may need to borrow this reasoning and bring it over to a discussion I'm having elsewhere...)

I didn't figure out the similarities with the names until right before the big reveal, so GOOD ON YOU for working it out, you smartypants, you! I was also disappointed that her identity turned out to be one that fandom had already guessed, but as other people have pointed out: it makes a lot of sense and goes a long way toward explaining her character, and also it leaves a whole lot of questions to be answered, which is good, considering we have six more episodes of this series to go! (WHY AREN'T THEY HERE YET?)

The characters of this ep were the best! (I totally knew the Blue Guy's name until five minutes ago. DAMN YOU, BRAIN!) I want to see each and every one of them again. I mean: Lorna Bucket just seemed to be too big a character for us to run into only once.

Yeah...that whole "fallen further" part is kinda BS. I mean: HE KILLED HIS ENTIRE RACE. That's pretty damn far to fall!

DAMNIT, I need more Who fans in my real life! For realz, the only person I regularly encountered in my real life who watched the show was one of my 10 year-old students, and now he is gone to summer camp! BOO! :P
