You know you're bored when...
you start taking those ridiculous online personality tests that seek to discover your secret inner self.
Well, as far as personality tests go, the one's based on Jung typing tend to be some of the more reliable, though I can't speak to the reliability of the one I just took, here. The result I got was ENTP (Extroverted, iNtuitive, Thinking, Perceiving), which is what I always get, so I suppose it's as accurate as most. (I did take a professional version once in a Human Growth and Development class in college, and this was my result.)
What I like about the results of this one is that instead of giving you a long, flowery essay describing your personality, they just give you a list of personality traits associated with your type. I've bolded the traits I think apply to me (at least most of the time/more than most people),striked the ones I think definitely don't apply to me, italicized those traits that apply to me sometimes/in certain situations, and left alone the ones I'm unsure about.
ENTP
risk taker, easy going, outgoing, social, open, rule breaker, thrill seeker, life of the party, comfortable in unfamiliar situations, appreciates strangeness, disorganized, adventurous, talented at presentation, aggressive, attention seeking, experience junky, insensitive, adaptable, not easily offended, messy, carefree, dangerous (???), fearless, careless, emotionally stable, spontaneous, improviser, always joking, player (or is it play-ah?), wild and crazy, dominant, acts without thinking, not into organized religion (or disorganized religion, for that matter), pro-weed legalization
Ok, so...maybe 50/50 on how well it describes me? Not overly accurate.
Of course, part of the discrepancy probably comes from the fact that I always score on the border of extrovert/introvert. I was painfully shy as a child, to the point where I would barely speak to anyone outside of my (immediate) family. I usually only had one, maybe two friends at a time until high school, and I can remember times where I had absolutely no one to spend recess with, and would just wander the playground alone.
At some point I got over it, and anyone who's met me since college will not believe I was ever even a little bit shy. I have no problem talking to strangers (even groups of them), and can generally go to parties where the only person I know is the host and make friends rather quickly. I start conversations with strangers in line at the grocery store, and now have a wide circle of close friends.
However, I still have that introverted thought process that is used to spending large amounts of time alone. Even though I enjoy social interaction, I don't always need it; when I lived alone, I could go for days at a time without any meaningful social interaction and not notice. I have a complex inner world that keeps me entertained, and I'm more than happy to sit on my own for long periods of time. In fact, I prefer to spend at least a couple hours on my own doing not much each day.
Also, all those "easy-going", "risk taker", "carefree" qualities don't take into account a massive anxiety disorder I finally got under control in my early twenties.
Now, here's the fun part: the jobs my personality type is suited for!
ENTP
dictator, computer consultant, international spy, tv producer, philosopher, comedian, music performer, it consultant, fighter pilot, politician, diplomat, entertainer, game designer, bar owner, freelance writer, creative director, strategist, news anchor, professional skateboarder, airline pilot, comic book artist, college professor, private detective, mechanical engineer, lecturer, ambassador, astronomer, research scientist, judge, web developer, scholar, fbi agent, cia agent, electrical engineer, assassin
Ok, WTF? Dictator?! Why didn't they tell me this was an option on career day?
Actually, never mind: I think I'm going to be an IT consultant/assassin instead. (They'll never see it coming...)
